Serving With Purpose

In 2016 Kent County Council initiated a groundbreaking project to transition its in-house legal department, Kent Legal Services, into what would become one of the first private practice firms wholly owned by a local authority – Invicta Law. The transition was far more than a simple rebranding effort; it signalled a fundamental shift in the local authority’s operating model from in-house council service to independent commercial enterprise.

An ABS license was granted by the Solutions Regulation Authority in April 2017, and two months later, a freestanding company was launched. Now part of Commercial Services Group, Invicta Law Limited is ultimately owned by Kent County Council.

Today, Invicta Law stands as a testament to the power of purpose-driven legal practice, harnessing the collective expertise of our team to provide specialised legal services to public sector bodies throughout the United Kingdom.

We provide a consistent, cost-effective, client-centred service to a diverse range of clients across county, borough and district councils, schools, community organisations and blue light services, specialising in four key areas: Child Protection, Adult Social Care, Asylum and Employment. Each area represents not just a practice area, but a commitment to upholding the rights and wellbeing of the communities we serve.

We Are Our People

The fabric of Invicta Law is its people—a team of 97 dynamic, dedicated lawyers and support staff who are determined to achieve the best possible outcomes for our clients.

Leading the team is Kam Singh, the Director of Law at Invicta Law since November 2022. With a career spanning over three decades in social care legal teams, and as a former member of the Law Society’s Children Panel (2008 to 2018), Kam brings a wealth of experience and a steadfast commitment to the welfare of the most vulnerable in society.

Her leadership is not just about steering the ship; it’s about setting a standard of excellence and compassion that permeates every level of our organisation.

Kam’s vision for Invicta Law is clear: to be an employer of choice for all staff and a service of excellence for all clients.

“What sets us apart is not just our public sector legal expertise, but also our intimate understanding of the intricacies and challenges faced by local authorities,” says Kam. “Informed by our journey since 2016, we have a firsthand perspective that allows us to navigate the complexities of public sector law with empathy, insight, and unparalleled expertise.”
