Helen Osborn
Joint Head of Child Protection

Helen jointly leads the Child Protection Group at Invicta Law. The team comprises over 70 people (including support staff) and deals primarily with public law proceedings, including highly complex cases such as fabricated or induced illness, inflicted injuries, sexual abuse (including historic matters), international cases, deprivation of liberty and child death. The team has comprehensive experience across all aspects of child protection law and deals with over 330 cases, on average, each year. Helen also advises on adoption matters and provides policy advice.

Educated at the University of Essex and the College of Law, Helen undertook her training at Medway Council and, upon qualification in 2011, remained with the local authority, specialising in Child Care Law. In 2014, she moved to Kent County Council, which later transitioned to Invicta Law in 2017.

Helen was appointed as a Principal Solicitor within the Child Protection Team in 2017 and was promoted later that year to Joint Head of Group.

She has delivered training to lawyers and social workers on a wide range of topics at conferences and professional meetings and will shortly deliver the legal presentation as part of stage one of prospective adopters’ training.

Helen is Co‑Chair of the Kent Family Justice Board and is a committed public sector lawyer with a strong record of contribution to the wider family justice community. Her work and professional achievements were recognised when she was awarded Family Law Associate Solicitor of the Year at the Family Law Awards 2016.
