Nina Seymour
Head of Employment, Privacy and Governance
Nina Seymour is the Head of Invicta Law’s Employment, Privacy and Governance team and is an experienced employment solicitor with a long career supporting local authorities and senior officers. She advises on a wide range of employment law matters and has developed particular expertise in senior officer and governance issues.
After completing her Common Professional Examination and Legal Practice Course at the College of Law in Chester, Nina trained in private practice and qualified as a Solicitor in January 2001. She went on to complete a Masters in Employment Law in 2002, qualified as an accredited mediator in 2005 and was recognised in the Legal 500 that same year.
Before joining Invicta Law in 2021, she worked with several large local authority in‑house teams, gaining extensive experience across varied employee relations and governance matters, as well as complex Employment and Appeal Tribunal cases.
Nina was the first solicitor in the UK to advise on matters under the Joint Negotiating Committee for Chief Officers of Local Authorities (JNC) Handbook, including reporting her findings directly to the JNC to enable the processes in the handbook to be reviewed. She has advised several investigation and disciplinary committees (IDC) on processes involving statutory officers, including Chief Executives, Monitoring Officers and S151 Officers. Additionally, Nina has supported Monitoring Officers in processes including preparing reports and advising committees to ensure the JNC framework is followed precisely.
Alongside her employment work, Nina has acted as deputy monitoring officer, handled standards complaints against councillors and worked closely with Independent Persons to review findings. She has drafted amendments to several council constitutions and written and presented reports to various committees, as well as acting as a key adviser to professional standards bodies and to Leaders of councils.
Nina is known for being clear, direct, pragmatic and thorough in her advice. She takes time to understand each organisation’s aims and priorities so that her guidance is accurate, proportionate and practical.
