James began his journey with the KCC legal team in 2009 as Head of Property before progressing to become Head of the Commercial and Environmental Group and later Head of Law. When KCC’s in-house legal team evolved into Invicta Law in 2017, James was one of the first directors of the newly formed company. His hard work and vision were crucial in shaping us into a leading legal service provider for public sector organisations in Kent and throughout the UK.
During his time here, James wore many hats – Director of Group Practice, Joint Chief Executive, and Director of Compliance (COLP). As COLP, he made sure we met the high standards set by the Solicitors Regulation Authority, ISO, LEXCEL, and, of course, our clients.
James’ leadership and expertise have seen us through numerous milestones and challenges. He reflects on the enormous effort that went into launching Invicta Law – one of the first private practice firms owned by a local authority – and fondly remembers our launch party as “a real celebration.”
Steering us through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and supporting KCC during that time are accomplishments James is particularly proud of.
A Strong Culture of Support
One of his biggest joys has been nurturing talent and helping people grow. During his time as our training principal, James played a key role in laying the foundations for the strong culture of support and development that we now have at Invicta Law.
As he steps into this exciting new chapter of retirement, James is looking forward to spending more time with his family, especially his young grandchildren, or as he calls them, his “little people”. He plans to do some travelling, meet new friends, and give back to the community. However, he acknowledges that he will miss the people he has worked with for many years.
“Building relationships – with clients and colleagues – has always been what it’s all about for me. That’s what I’ll miss the most,” he shares.
James leaves behind a legacy of excellence and a solid foundation for the future. As we say goodbye, we celebrate not just his achievements but the friendship and warmth he brought to our team.
